Troup theater students earn 2nd place at festival

Troup Rising Stars show off the awards they won at the Van Festival on Nov. 3. The team of theater students from Troup High School and Middle School earned second place out of 14 schools, with Pine Tree receiving first place honors. The middle school has a production coming up on Nov. 29, and audtions are set Dec. 6 for the high school's One Act Play.

Congratulations to the Troup Middle School Rising Stars and the Troup High School Star Struck Company for winning second place at the 7th Annual Van High School Performing Arts Festival on Saturday, Nov. 3. Troup competed with 14 schools and came in second behind Pine Tree.

Come out to see the middle school Rising Stars perform John Lennon and Me on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students. You can also see them perform for free at their district contest in Arp on Dec. 4.

Auditions for the high school One Act Play will be held after school on Thursday, Dec. 6. Theater director Melissa Freeman said they are looking for five women and two men and at least four understudies to play in The Women of Lockerbie, about the terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland in 1988. Four of the women must use Scottish accents. You do not have to be in theatre to audition. See Freeman to obtain a script in advance.
