Aleman boots Wildcat JV to win Just one week after Taylor Burns kicked the varsity to victory with a game ending field goal, JV kicker, Julio Aleman, found himself in the same situation last week at home against Marshall. Aleman stepped over the 31-yard try and knocked it through the uprights to post the Wildcats to a 31-28 win in an exciting District 12-4A battle at Wildcat Stadium. The night did not start out well for Whitehouse as big plays by Marshall and the Cats' own penalties helped the Mavericks jump out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Wildcat offense finally got on track in the second quarter as QB Preston Conder started a scoring drive hitting Aleman and Garrett Ehrman on consecutive first down passes. The drive ended with Aleman scoring on a two-yard run and then adding the PAT to cut the lead in half at 14-7. Marshall seemed poised to get the score back on its next possession, but the Wildcat defense forced a turnover that was recovered by Reggie Wright at the Whitehouse 32. Conder then went to work finding his receivers open over the middle of the field, and a strike to Jayme Antu put Whitehouse in scoring position at the Marshall 15. Three plays later, Conder broke through from four yards out, and with Aleman's kick, the Wildcats had come back to tie things at 14 all at the half. Things remained back and forth in the second half as Marshall got back on top 21-14 on a 49-yard TD pass. The Wildcats then answered as Conder hit Ehrman down to the Maverick 28 on a fourth and ten play. The scoring drive ended on a 16-yard TD completion to Antu to tie the score back up at 21- 21. Not to be outdone by the Wildcat offense, the Mavericks regained the lead on a trick play. The Marshall QB hit the back behind the line of scrimmage on what looked like a swing pass, but the back then pulled up and hit a wide-open receiver downfield for a 68-yard score. The lead went back to the Mavericks at 28-21. Whitehouse then received the ensuing kickoff at its own 30-yard line with 7:25 remaining in the game needing a touchdown to tie. Faced with a third down play early in the drive, Conder scrambled for the first down inside Marshall territory. Conder then hit Logan Wright on consecutive completions, the first moving the ball to the 25 of Marshall and the next one on a 25-yard scoring strike. The PAT again tied the score at 28-28. With time running down, the Mavericks marched deep into Whitehouse ter- ritory and looked ready to regain the lead. However, what appeared to be a miscommunication between the QB and receiver saw the pass go directly to J.D. Hart, and he returned the interception from the Wildcat 4 to the 36. Now faced with the opportunity to go down and take their first lead of the night, the Wildcat offense continued to exploit the middle of the field as consecutive passes to Antu and then Wright moved the ball into field goal range to set up Aleman's kick. With the win, the JV puts itself in position to claim a share of the district title if they can defeat the Dragons tonight in Nacogdoches.
