Whitehouse JV earns district title The Whitehouse JV traveled to Nacogdoches last Thursday with one goal in mind and that was to pick up the road win, and with the win, bring home a share of the district title with the Dragons who came into the contest undefeated in district play. That goal was accomplished with a hard fought 21-14 win. Things did not look good early on as the Dragons scored on their first possession of the game, and with the PAT, took an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats wasted little time getting back in the game as QB Preston Conder hit Garrett Ehrman right at the front pylon for a 34-yard TD strike on its first possession, and with the PAT by Julio Aleman, Whitehouse had tied things up at 7-7 right before the end of the first quarter. The score then stood through the second quarter, but the Wildcats threatened to score right before the half. Facing a fourth and one, Conder hit Logan Taylor with the first down pass down to the Dragon 23. Then Conder went to the end zone for Logan Wright for what looked like a go-ahead touchdown, but Wright was called for a push off on the Dragon defender when it appeared that he fell down on his own. The penalty against the Cats crushed any hopes for a score before the half and the 7-7 score stood. The Wildcats came out in the second half determined to take the lead. Conder went to the air completing consecutive passes to Taylor and Wright for first downs to move the ball into Dragon territory. The scoring drive ended with an 18-yard strike to Wright, and this time there was no flag to take away the score, and the PAT gave the Cats the 14-7 lead. The Wildcat defense continued to apply pressure to the Dragon running game and forced a punt on the Dragons' next possession. The Cats then went on another scoring drive that went into the fourth quarter and ended with Conder getting the TD on a 2-yard run, and the Wildcat lead was extended to 21-7 with 6:28 left in the game. Just as the Dragons looked like they might mount a scoring drive on the ensuing possession, cornerback Josh McGill picked off an errant pass at the Wildcat 38 with 4:38 left in the game. The Dragons scored another TD late, but the Wildcats held on for the 21-14 victory. The win gave the Wildcats a share of the district crown with the Dragons, and they finished the year with an 8-1 record having lost only to Pine Tree on the road. |
