Freshmen fall at Nacogdoches The Whitehouse freshman teams traveled to Nacogdoches last week in search of a district title. In the "B" game, Whitehouse came up short losing 20-6. The "A" game pitted the only undefeated teams remaining in the district headed into the final week. The Wildcats battled but came up on the short end of the 20-6 final. Nacogdoches looked ready to take an early lead as their first play from scrimmage went 43 yards on the run to the Wildcat 27. However, the Wildcat defense stiffened and on fourth down Matt Durst and Simon Webb picked up the sack on the Dragon QB to get the turnover on downs. The Wildcat offense struggled in the first half, and the home team took full advantage scoring on a 67-yard drive and then later on a 48-yard run to take a 14-0 lead into the half. Whitehouse threatened to score right before the half behind the strong running of Shundrick Beasley. The drive ended at the Nacogdoches nine and the Cats faced an uphill climb in the second half. Unfortunately, the second half did not change for the Wildcats as the Dragons scored again halfway through the third quarter to extend their lead to 20-0. The Wildcats finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter. The defense set up the scoring opportunity with a big stop on fourth down at their own 45. From there, Beasley picked up most of the yards as the drive reached the Dragon 21 on a fourth down play. Needing only a yard for the first down, Beasley got down to the five for a first and goal. After a five-yard penalty, QB Patrick Cook found Ryan Speake in the end zone for the score to end the game at the 20-6 final. The freshmen ended the season with an 8-2 mark and a 6-1 record in district. |
