Troup Middle School students rehearse a scene from the play "John Lennon and Me," which the cast will perform Thursday, Nov. 29 in Troup and again on Dec. 4 at the One Act Play competition in Arp. Written by prolific playwright and television screenwriter Cherie Bennett, "John Lennon and Me" is about Star aka Stella Grubner (seventh-grader Olivia Mowery), a dramatic and imaginative teen who has cystic fibrosis. At a hospital for children, Star meets Courtney and the play chronicles their friendship, Star's effort to downplay her illness and be just like everyone else, as well as the universal experience of a first kiss. Other stars include Jaclyn Bender as Courtney, LaShun Roy, Cheney Cover, Hank Freeman, Summer Freeman, Summer Brown and Lexee Jones. The play is directed by Melissa Freeman.
