Seventh-grade Lady Tigers defeat West Rusk, Arp

The middle school Lady Tigers dominated West Rusk on Monday, with the seventh-graders winning 28-2 and the eighthgrade 31-18.

The victories improve the seventh-grade record to 4-0 while the eighth-grade team evens out at 2-2.

Leading scorers for the seventh graders were Wykina Caldwell with 12, Hunter Jordan 10, Charisma McCowin 4 and Darnesha Claiborne 2.

Caldwell was also the leading rebounder with 11, while Katie Reeder pulled down 6 boards.

McCowin notched 5 steals against just 2 turnovers.

The seventh-graders also downed Arp on Nov. 19, 26-14, with Caldwell again leading the scoring with 12.

Other top contributors were Jordan and Claiborne with 4 each, and McCowin, Summer Brown and Reeder with 2 each.

Caldwell also had 12 boards, followed by Clairborne with 7 and McCowin with 6.

Jordan came away with 4 steals and just 1 turnover.

In the eighth-grade game with West Rusk, Troup jumped out to a 15-0 lead before the Lady Raiders scored at 5:16 in the second quarter.

With Troup leading 19-11 at half, the Lady Tigers continued to pull away in the third. Scoring in the fourth was tight, but the early lead and a strong defense preserved the win for Troup.

Keraveon Rodgers had a solid game with 5 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals.

Brittany Alfred was the leading scorer with 11 points, followed by Nesha Handy with 8, Taylor Martin 3 and Lauren Hugghins and Caitlyn Renson each with 2.

Renson also had 8 boards, followed by Alfred with 6.

Martin added 5 steals.

The West Rusk win followed a close loss to Arp, 36-27.

Top scorers were Rodgers with 12, Alfred 9, Martin and Jasmin Steweart with 2 each, and Handy and Renson with 1 each. Rodgers also pulled down 9 boards, followed by Renson with 8 and Alfred 6.

Rodgers and Martin had 8 and 6 steals, respectively.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is Tatum, with Troup hosting Monday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.
