Ladycats fall to JT

Heading into Tuesday's game with Palestine, the Ladycats evened their season record at 2-2 with a close road loss to John Tyler, 56-47, last week. The JV lost 38-30 (2-2).

Despite a late surge, the team could not recover from a very cold third quarter, scoring just two points to John Tyler's 16.

John Tyler led 24-21 at halftime, but saw that margin grow to 40-23 heading into the fourth quarter. The Ladycats poured in 24 points in the final stanza, but still fell short.

Despite the loss, head coach Willie Hill said the team is steadily improving heading into district play.

"I know we will bring it all together because there are too many positive things happening," said Hill. "Fourteen assists and 10 steals - that tells me a lot about the Ladycats.. The door is opening up for good things."

Kayla Mason led her team in steals with four. The senior also had six steals in the Ladycats' previous game with Hughes Springs, to go along with a teamhigh 14 points.

Against JT, Mason was followed by Haylee Aldredge and Alicia Cordova with two steals each and Shelly Williams and Jordan Knight with one each.

Caroline Perrier was the leading scorer with 19 points, followed by Cordova with 10, Williams 9, Mason 5 and Knight 4. Perrier hit five of 10 threepoint attempts.

Cordova also pulled down 9 boards, with Mason adding 4.

The Ladycat teams are participating in the Wills Point Tournament Nov. 29 through Dec. 1. The junior varsity team plays first, taking on Parish Episcopal at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by the varsity against Terrell at 1:30 and the freshmen at 4:30 vs. Red Oak. If the JV wins its morning contest, they will play Rockwall Heath at 4:30 p.m. that same day.
