Julian Earl "J. E." Gilliam

Services for Julian Earl "J. E." Gilliam, 81, of Troup were held Dec. 10 at New Summerfield Church of Christ with Andy Cox presiding.

Burial was at McDonald Cemetery, New Summerfield, under direction of Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Mr. Gilliam died Dec. 6, 2007 in Tyler.

He was born March 2, 1926 in Ponta. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Ponta Church of Christ. He was a member of VFW and American Legion Post 418, Troup. He was employed by Smith Auto Parts in Troup for 20 years. He was preceded in death by parents Wayne Ottis Gilliam and Sudie Bell Gray Gilliam, and brother Billy Gene Gilliam.

Survivors include his wife, Sherma Gilliam, Troup; son, Bill Sanders, Tyler; daughters, Judy Jones, Jacksonville and Trudy Case, Lindale; sister, Dorothy Merchant, Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
