WH junior high girls start season

Troup's eighth grade girls basketball team with Coach Shannon Davis. The girls won second place in the Gladewater Classic.
The Whitehouse junior high girls basketball teams have begun their season, with this being the second year of playing both a full seventh and eighth grade schedule.

On Nov. 15, the eighth grade teams played host to Nacogdoches McMichael.

In the "A" game, the Ladycats got 12 points from Erica Jordan and 10 points from Chestley Strothers but came out a little short in a 36-33 loss to the Lady Dragons. Taylor Burkett had seven points, and Shelby Galloway had four points for the Ladycats.

The Ladycat "B" team played solid defense in holding McMichael to only seven points in a 19-7 win.

Top scorers for the Ladycats were Kenzie Patterson and Kayla Farley with six points each; Courtney Carter, Kelsi Glasscock and Kirsti Molloy with two each; and Taylor Allen with one.

On Nov. 29, all teams traveled to Jacksonville to battle with the Lady Maidens.

In the 7th grade "A" game, Kenslie Dews led the way with 10 points, but the Ladycats fell in a 28-13 loss. Victoria Taylor had two points in the loss while Kelsie Fairbanks had one point.

In the seventh grade "B" game, the Ladycats pulled out a 19-4 win. Ashley Moore, Anna Hayden, and Savannah Hulsey had four points each while Bailee Brown added three, and Torrie Mae and Reanna Boone had two points each for the Ladycats.

In the eighth grade games, the "A" team fell to the Lady Maidens 33-18 while the "B" team pulled out a close 17-13 win.

Strothers led the way for the "A" team with eight points followed by Galloway with six and Jordan with four.

The "B" team had balanced scoring with Hannah Richardson and Alexis Gentry leading the way with four points each. Kailey Reeves added three, and Glasscock and Carter added two each.

Most recently, the seventh grade hosted a tournament at C.L. Nix gym, and the "A" team placed second while the "B" team won their championship game.

The "A" team defeated Hallsville 15-13 in their first game before falling to Lufkin in the final 30- 17.

In the Hallsville game, Dews led the way in scoring with six points followed by Angela Knight, Jayme Lawrence, and Taylor with two each.

In the Lufkin game, Dews had seven points followed by Taylor and Katherine Weathers with two points each.

The "B" team won their tournament by defeating Hallsville 23-5 and Lufkin in a close battle, 19- 16. Brown led the way in scoring for the tournament with 10 points against Hallsville and nine points against Lufkin.

Mae added six points against Hallsville, and Savannah Hulsey added five. Erin Strickland also had six points in the Lufkin game followed by Moore with four.
