Tynus McNeel Sr.

Memorial services for Dr. Tynus McNeel Sr., 73, were held at Stewart Family Funeral Home on Dec. 17 with Rev. Ferel Little and Rev. Doug Baker officiating.

Graveside services were held in the Masonic Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Tynus William McNeel Sr. was born on Jan. 20, 1934 in Hearne to Willie Aubrey McNeel, a former Southern Pacific Railroad employee, and Lillian Lawrence McNeel, an English teacher and counselor.

He died on Dec. 13, 2007 at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

Tynus received his Bachelor of Arts at The University of Texas at Austin in 1956, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He went on to obtain his M.D. from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1960. He did his internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., in 1961. He then completed his psychiatry residency at The University of Texas Medical School at Galveston in 1964.

He was affiliated with Mother Frances Hospital, East Texas Medical Center Hospital and the Behavioral Health Center in Tyler, and a partner of Tyler Psychiatric Clinic.

Tynus was preceded in death by his father, his mother and his mother-in-law, Dorothy King.

He is survived by his wife, D'Auan King McNeel; daughter, Lesley McNeel Shaw of Tyler; son, Tynus William McNeel Jr. of Whitehouse; son, Jeffrey Lawrence McNeel and wife Amanda of Palestine; son, Lance Christian McNeel and wife Laura of Tyler; grandchildren William Sealy Hambright, Brittany McNeel Molandes, Tynus William McNeel III, Brenton Scott Shaw, Taylor Cheney McNeel, Stayten Laird Shaw, Lawrence Edward McNeel, Logan William McNeel, Connor Ray McNeel and Courtney Hollingsworth; great-grandchildren Madeline and Michael Molandes; his father-in-law, Bruce King and wife Martha; brotherin law, Tommy King and wife Stephanie; niece, Whitney King; and nephew, Thomas King of Mount Pleasant; and the mother of his children, Lillie Critchfield McNeel of Tyler.

Pallbearers were Paul Wick, Buck Files, Jack Skeen, Wade French, Joe Arisco, Ray Scardina, Matt Bingham, and Mark Stevenson.

Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Engelman, Larry Godfrey, WR Gaston, Grady Baskin, Charlie Noble, David Sloan, Judge Kerry Russell, Judge Tom Dunn, Judge Randall Rogers and Judge Cynthia Kent.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, 75701.
