Sgt. Samuel Kelsey

Services for Sgt. Samuel E. Kelsey, 24, of Troup are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at the First Baptist Church, Troup, with the Reverend Mike Jeter officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Pinecrest Cemetery, Troup, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Sgt. Kelsey was killed in action in Tunnis, Iraq, Dec. 13, 2007. He was born June 28, 1983 in Athens.

Sgt. Kelsey was a 2001 graduate of Troup High School and had been serving in the U.S. Army for the past five years.

His mom describes him as her heart and soul.

Survivors include his mom, Denina Kelsey, Troup; his grandparents, Samuel and Barbara Kelsey, Troup; uncles and aunts, Anthony and Julie Kelsey and Kevin and Jessica Kelsey; aunts and uncles, Deela and Carl Smith, Sammie and Tommy Day, and Tonja and Anthony Hanks; cousins, Stacy, Larry, Kelli, Ty, Cody, James, Katie, Casey, Savannah, Chance and Corbin; and all his friends.

In Samuel's honor, his mother requests that everyone consider extending an act of kindness to service personnel serving in Iraq.
