JV takes championship

The Wildcat JV continued their winning streak last weekend, claiming four more wins on the way to a championship in the Longview Dr Pepper JV/ Freshman Tournament and a 13-1 season record.

The first game on Thursday saw Whitehouse take on Longview "B" and open the tourney with a convincing 64-18 win. The Wildcats had a balanced scoring attack led by Drew Flynn with 12 points followed by Skip Caldwell with 11, Justin Keller with 10, and Judd Jackson with 7.

In the early game on Friday, the Cats would go into the half against John Tyler trailing 27-15. However, the Wildcats went on a 16-6 run in the third quarter on their way to a 56-50 come from behind win. Flynn and Caldwell led the way with 15 and 14 points each in the win.

In the semifinal on Friday night, Whitehouse rode the hot hand of Jackson, who led the way with 26 points, to defeat Texas High 58-44. Keller followed with 15 as Flynn chipped in 14 points in the win.

The Wildcats then followed suit with the freshman team as they faced Longview "A" in the championship. Whitehouse found itself in a dog fight as they went to the half in a 18-18 tie.

The third quarter remained a close battle and the teams were still tied at 32-32 headed into the final quarter. The Wildcats stayed close, and Logan Taylor came up with a big offensive rebound and the put back with eight seconds left to give the Cats the 46-44 victory and take the trophy back to the 'House.

Taylor had 7 points, while Keller added 13 and Caldwell 8.
