Tractor show, pull Saturday
      The Lone Star Antique Tractor and Engine Association is hosting its annual Show and Tractor Pull, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. This event includes activities for all ages including antique engine displays, tractor pulls, antique farm machine demonstrations and even a tractor parade.

Area high school students can try out for Patriot Idol
      The University of Texas at Tyler Alumni Association and the Campus Activity Board (CAB) will co-sponsor the Third Annual Patriot Idol contest on Thursday, Oct. 9, to be held in the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

Engagement
     Holly Suzzanne Brotherton of Palestine and Christopher Martin Thedford of Troup announce their engagement and plan to marry Oct. 11, 2008 at Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville. The bride-elect, daughter of Curtis and Donna Garner of Palestine, is pursuing a nursing degree in Tyler. Maternal grandparent is Mary Beene of Palestine, and paternal grandparents are Bobby and Betty Brotherton of Palestine. The prospective groom is pursuing an engineering degree, with a minor in business, in Tyler and works for Alstom Power Inc. He is the son of Larry and Linda Spittler of Troup. Maternal grandparents are the late Archie and Bernice Bolton of Dialville.

Bible Wesleyan Church hosts time management seminar
      The Bible Wesleyan Church at 104 Hagan Rd. in Whitehouse will be the location for a time management seminar by Rick Grubbs. Since 1984 Rick Grubbs has been offering life-changing seminars on the subject of "Redeeming the Time." He has spoken more than 1500 times in 49 states and about 15 countries.

Kinney baby home; fund help still needed
      Seth Kinney came into the world prematurely, but the latest update has the little fighter at home and progressing well. Brian and Tina Scott Kinney and their first son Zane welcomed Seth into the world June 30. He was not due until Aug. 20. Seth spent almost two months in Children's Hospital in Dallas.

     Jessica Swinney is one of two drum majors at Tyler Junior College this year. Swinney is a 2006 graduate of Troup High School, where she served as drum major her junior and senior years. Swinney is majoring in deaf education at TJC. Her proud family includes parents Duane and Kay Swinney and little sister Julie.

     Members of the Troup Police Department welcome their newest addition, Officer Kyle Stowers, and show off their new badges. The new badges were inspired by Lt. Frank Blake's service with the Bell Police Department in California, where he retired in 1979. The Bell PD donated the badges. Officer Stowers (front row, second from right) is a Bullard High School graduate who began as a dispatcher for Whitehouse PD. He then completed the Kilgore College Police Academy and, from there, began patrol for the City of New London Police Department. Stowers joined the department in July. Also pictured are (front) Officer Greg Edmonds, K-9 Officer Daniel Dallas and Luke, Chief Pat Hendrix, (back) Sgt. Shawn Murry, School Resource Officer Lanny Becker, Lt. Drott completes Eagle Scout project
      Kyle Drott's Eagle Scout project will certainly benefit many children for many years to come. Drott, along with many friends and supporters, built a 48' long "T" pier on the shores of Lake Tyler at Camp Tyler.
