Annual festival opts for cooler weather
YESTERYEAR 2008
Looking for cooler temperatures, the YesterYear celebration of Whitehouse moves to a new season for 2008. Fall will now call friends and family back home to celebrate the pride and heritage of Whitehouse as the festivities for YesterYear gear up for what promises to be an exciting time. The annual activities will kick off Friday, Oct. 3 with the Roy Lawrence Memorial Golf Tournament being held at Eagle's Bluff Country Club. The tournament cost of $100 per player includes green fees, cart, range balls and hamburger buffet. The shot gun start is at 1:30 p.m. with registration and lunch beginning at 12:30. Registration forms are available at Regions Bank and The Medicine Shoppe in Whitehouse or contact Steve Emmons at 903-245-0074.Also taking shape is the line-up for the big parade set for Saturday, Oct. 11. This year's parade will include elaborate floats highlighting the Princess, Ladies in Waiting and their courts as well as the clowns, kids and all that cotton candy. By linking the festival with pre-homecoming activities for WHS, parade goers will enjoy the added features this year of the WHS band, cheerleaders, the beautiful homecoming court and other Wildcat fan favorites. "The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the front of Whitehouse Junior High by the administration building," parade coordinator Kurt Kunzman said. "Lineup begins at 9. We are still looking for entries. They just need to give me a call." The route will go south on Hwy. 110 and left on FM 346 and go past the park and turn left on Bascom Rd. The parade will then take a left just past the library and floats will park behind the park. For information, par ticipants can call Kunzman at 903-839- 3118. Don't miss the opportunity to sign up now for the Charity Car, Truck and Bike Show that will take place immediately following the parade on Oct. 11. This is the second year for this event benefiting Shattered Dreams, Whitehouse Community Library and the City of Whitehouse Park area. The location of the show has moved to the Austin Bank parking lot on Hwy. 110, just north of FM 346. Early registration is strongly encouraged by the event's organizer, Stephanie Muller, secretary of the Range Rider Motorcycle Club. "The early entry fee is $20 and late entries pay $25 after Sept. 30," Muller said. "Registration will be available the day of the show but ends at 1:30 p.m. sharp." "We have vendor spots available for the same entry fee with lots of prizes and trophies to be awarded," Muller continued. "We'll have a special appearance by former Dallas Cowboy punter Toby Gowin." Muller can be reached for registration by calling 903-360- 4468 and leave a message. Other events planned for the annual celebration include the Review on Saturday, Oct. 4. "It's a variety show of sorts with local talent singing, dancing and acting their way into the hearts of many," Review coordinator Susan Shivers said. "This year's theme of 'Magical Main Street' will focus on mystical, magical celebration of all things grand that happen up and down Main Street." This will also feature the Royal Courts and all their pageantry. Tickets for the Review are $5. Whether you come for the food, the show, the cars or to laugh at the clowns, plan now to attend the 26th annual YesterYear celebration set for Oct. 3-4 and Oct. 11. |
