Services for Melba C. Forbis, 90, of Center, Clever Creek Community, were held Dec. 20 at Clever Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Rowe, Rev. Carl Smith and Dr. Jerry Hopkins officiating.

Burial was in Clever Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home, Tyler.

Mrs. Forbis passed away on Dec. 17, 2008, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

She was born on March 11, 1918, in Center to the late Dudley Dean and Myra Horn Cammack. The Cammack family came to Shelby County in the 1850s by covered wagon and established a cotton farm. Melba was born in the farm house in Clever Creek and lived most of her life there. She was a homemaker and member of Clever Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Forbis was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eric J. Forbis; granddaughter, Sarah Forbis; and grandson, Raymond R. Eric Forbis.

She is survived by a loving family including two daughters, Myra Brown and husband Jim of Emerald Bay, and Nelda Baldwin and husband David of Providence Village; a son, Guy Forbis and wife Deborah of Whitehouse; grandchildren, Ben Brown, Elizabeth Rowe, Jonathan Spears, Jennifer Sawyer and Adam Forbis; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Brown, Shelby Rowe, Olivia Rowe, Hayden Brown, Carson Brown, Nick Patterson, Abigail Sawyer and Mary Ellen Spears; and sister, Margaret Nell Russell of Center.

Pallbearers were Ben Brown, Adam Forbis, Charlie Sawyer, Dudley Russell, Larry Russell and Glynn Russell.
