Recycle Center to reopen Avid recyclers can breathe a sign of relief. The reopening of the City of Whitehouse Recycling Center is in sight. "We don't know if we'll have everything ready to open by Jan. 9 or if it will be Jan. 16," said Mike Peterson, community development director. "But as soon as the roof is finished, the items from the utilities barn will go back where they belong." The center has been closed since the Sept. 17 fire at the city's utilities barn forced the move of equipment to the recycle building. A chemical spontaneous combustion was determined to be the cause of that fire. The fire started in the southeast corner of the structure on Railroad Avenue with flames making their way under the sheet metal. Along with the replacement of some of the city vehicles, reyoungest pair work has been in progress at the barn for quite sometime. Peterson says the job is just about complete. Regular operation for the Whitehouse Recycle Center is Wednesday 7-10 a.m. and 3:30- 5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Bring recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Avenue. |
