Edmonds glad for opportunity to re-establish local roots
FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS
BY SUZANNE LOUDAMY Staff writer

Officer Greg Edmonds has joined the Troup Police Department. The Navy veteran graduated from Whitehouse High School in 2001 and has been serving as a jailer for the Smith County Sheriff's Department.
You know what they say about living in a small town? There is always a face around the corner you will recognize.

That is once again the case in Troup. Their newest police officer is not new to the area at all.

Officer Greg Edmonds joined the ranks of the Troup Police Department on Dec. 29.

Edmonds came to the Troup PD from the Smith County Sheriff's Department where he had served as a jailer since Nov. 16, 2003.

After graduating from Whitehouse High School in 2001, Edmonds joined the Navy. Tyler Junior College and criminal justice coursework were next on his life agenda.

His time spent at the police academy in Tyler was sponsored by the Smith County Sheriff's Department.

While Edmonds said the jail was a great learning field, he was anxious to get out on the streets.

"I look forward to meeting the people of Troup," Edmonds said. "It's a great little town where I already feel at home."

Edmonds says he enjoys being from a small town and working in one, too. He likes that everyone gets to know each other and watches out for one another. He looks forward to finding a home in the Whitehouse/Troup area for his growing family.

While he learns the ropes of patrol, Edmonds will train under the guiding reins of Sgt. Shawn Murry.

Edmonds grew up in neighboring Whitehouse with his parents W.G. and Karen.

While law enforcement is his occupational focus, Edmonds and his wife are looking forward to the birth of their first baby, any minute now. Welcome Officer Greg Edmonds to the Troup PD and ask to see a picture of his newest pride and joy.
