Hanks Senior Center enjoys growth in 2007

The Hanks Senior Citizens Center in Whitehouse enjoyed a very good year. Several new friends have come to join them. Some just come for the fellowship, and others deliver meals to the homebound.

The center offers dominos, bingo, Mah Jong, puzzles and other games. The welcome mat is out for the community to join them for lunch, served at 11:30 a.m. by Meals on Wheels, for a donation of $3.

"The purpose of our center is to encourage the older generation to get up, get dressed and get out of the house," said site manager Carol Arnold. "After you come for a few times it becomes habit forming."

A special thank you from the center goes to those who deliver all those meals to the homebound.

The center has other activities throughout the year. In 2007 they had a fish fry, barbecue and Christmas gettogethers on Saturdays. Turnout for these events was good, with 40-50 seniors attending each event.

The center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 118 Railroad Ave. For more information contact Arnold at 903- 839-6958.
