Whitehouse slips by Lady Pirates, 42-38 A third-quarter surge propelled the Whitehouse Ladycats to a 42-38 win over Pine Tree High School Friday. The road win moved the varsity team to 2-3 in district and 17-8 on the year. Pine Tree held the edge at halftime, 18-16, but the Ladycats outscored the Lady Pirates 18-10 in the third for a 34-28 advantage going into the fourth quarter. Although Pine Tree narrowly outscored Whitehouse in the fourth quarter, the Ladycats' defensive pressure and key free throws kept them on top, according to head coach Willie Hill. Kayla Mason poured in 18 points, including one trey. The senior also nabbed four steals and hit 9-of-14 free throw attempts. Alicia Cordova added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Other scorers were Caroline Perrier and Jordan Knight with 4 points each and Shelly Williams with 3. Knight also pulled down 7 boards and Perrier 5. It was a cold night from longdistance range for the Ladycats, with Mason, Perrier and Williams combining for 2-of-22 in three-point attempts. The JV suffered a big defeat, 29-9. The freshman team also had a tough night, losing 20-18. The top scorer was Chas Stewart. |
