Troup drops district games to Tatum, EF

The Troup varsity boys team continues to struggle, falling twice last week to district foes Tatum and Elysian Fields.

Playing in Tatum on Jan. 3, the Tigers outscored the Eagles in the second half but still fell short, 64-47. Senior Reginald Wade led all scorers with 17, followed by sophomore Der'Rick Thompson with 16.

Troup fell behind early, scoring just four points in the first quarter. By halftime, the Eagles were leading 36-15.

The Tigers held close in the third, outscoring Tatum 11-10, and then finished with 21 points in the fourth to narrow the deficit.

Other Tiger scorers were Jeremy Richardson with 8, Jake Johnson 4 and Cody Lepelley and Charlie Ralph with 1 each.

Hosting the Yellowjackets on Jan. 5, the Tigers had another slow start, trailing 24-14 at halftime. The team suffered its lowest production in the third, scoring just three points, before mounting a comeback in the fourth.

Despite outscoring Elysian Fields 19-11 in the final period, the Tigers lost 48-36.

Wade again was the high scorer with 15 (including three treys), followed by Thompson with 6, Lepelley 5, Richardson 4, and Ralph, Nick Reeves and Tee Franklin all with 2.

The losses moved the Tigers to 2-18 on the season and 0-3 in district.
