Lady Tigers down Elysian Fields, 38-33

The Lady Tigers survived a late charge by Elysian Fields and hung on for a 38-33 victory Saturday.

Senior Janna Ross led the way with 11 points, followed by Niecy Stewart with 9 and Jessica Ross with 8.

Other scorers were Stasinie Hunter with 4 and the trio of Jenna Johnson, Lauren Fite and Lauren World with 2 each.

The two teams traded points early before Troup pulled away slightly at the half, 15-10.

Trailing by 12 at the end of the third, the Lady Yellowjackets mounted a fourth-quarter run and gradually cut the lead to within five, 36-31, with under two minutes to play.

A final score by Elysian Fields narrowed the deficit to three, 36-33, but Stewart sank two free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

The Lady Tigers will be hosting Garrison on Friday, with junior varsity play beginning at 5 p.m.
