The Whitehouse Wildcats, fresh off an 87- 41 pounding over Henderson last Friday night, face the team they are tied with in District 12- AAAA with identical 5-0 records: the Nacogdoches Dragons.
Whitehouse, currently ranked #5 in class AAAA by the TABC, has an overall record of 18-1.
The game with Nacogdoches in Wildcat Arena on Friday is only the latest in a series of "big games" between the two schools over the past several years.
The last four years has seen either Nac or Whitehouse win the district, while the other team finished second.
"Nac is really good," head coach Wally Dawkins notes.
"They are quick, they play about 10 kids, so they run and press you all the time, and Hall (Pat, 6'3 guard) is very tough to stop. I anticipate a great game."
The Wildcats had little or no problem with Henderson in the Lions Den last Friday, thumping the home team 87-41. Kyle Ford led another balanced scoring attack netting 18 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point arc.
"Kyle just played tremendously well on both ends of the floor," Dawkins added. "His defense created numerous turnovers, he made some outstanding passes, and I thought he shot the ball with a lot of confidence. He has great range."
Ford received plenty of support as Cade Clark added 15 and 6 rebounds, Mitch Marquis tossed in 12 with nine assists, while Bart Henderson and Kody Molloy chipped in 11.
Jacob Holmen added 7 points with 10 rebounds while Brady Attaway and Seth Cashion each scored 3, Tanner Fedell had 2, and Nick Kunzman scored 1.
Four Wildcats combined for 12 three-point completions.
"It was a real team win with ever ybody contributing," Dawkins concluded.
Whitehouse dominated in every quarter, jumping out to an early 20-4 lead.
With a halftime lead of 43-18, the Cats had their biggest production in the third, outscoring the Lions 25-9.
Whitehouse travels to Kilgore on Jan. 22, then returns to Whitehouse to host Jacksonville on Jan. 25.
