Chocolate dessert competition begins Do you make the best chocolate dessert around? The Smith County Extension Education Association is hosting its third annual "Chocolate Dessert Contest" to find the "Best" in Smith County. The contest will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9 in the Texas AgriLife Extension Service auditorium in room 116A of the Cotton Belt Building at 1517 West Front Street in Tyler. Entries will be accepted from 9 - 10:30 a.m. There are two divisions - youth up to age 17 and adult 18 and over. The entry fee is $1 per item entered and due on the day of the contest. Entry forms can be obtained from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service office, printed off their website at http://smith-tx.tamu.edu/ (select publications, then click on "Contest"), or you can fill one out when you bring your entries the day of the contest. Besides the honor of being named the best chocolate dessert in the county, prizes will be awarded to the top three in each division. A free informative workshop on decorating will be offered to the general public and contestants starting at 10:30 a.m. Presenters will be from Michael's Arts and Crafts/Wilton Cake Decorating and Fresh Fruit Bouquet. Contest winners will be announced at the conclusion of the workshop. Contestants and workshop participants are requested to enter the Extension auditorium at the north entrance of the Cotton Belt Building on Park Street. There will be signs indicating the entrance.
