Wildcats now #3 in state
The Dragons entered the game last Friday tied with the Wildcats at 6-0 in league play, while 16-8 overall. The Cats then traveled to Kilgore to decimate the Bulldogs 68-31 in another district matchup. By defeating Nac and Kilgore, the Wildcats extended their winning streak to 18, the lone setback being a controversial tip in by Bossier City, La., in overtime by a score of 58-60. Since then WHS has begun to hit their stride, winning their 27th home game in a row, and their 28th district game in a row. The victory over Nac also gave Coach Wally Dawkins his 550th career win. Dawkins is now 433-132 as head coach of the Wildcats in this, his 19th, season. The Wildcats now play host to arch nemesis Jacksonville, a team the Wildcats have defeated twice: the first time in a district contest by the close score of 53- 48. The second meeting came in the finals of the TJC Tournament, with WHS routing the Indians 70-45. Dawkins however, knows the dangers of not being ready for J'Ville. "Coach Bridgeforth has an excellent team, and they are well coached," Dawkins adds. "We will have to play our best to win, and I expect us to be r eady. The fans better get to Wildcat Arena early if they want a good seat. I can assure you Jacksonville is coming over here thinking they can beat us." Against Nacogdoches, the Cats jumped out to an early 19- 7 first quarter lead and never trailed. Whitehouse, which has pummeled most of its opponents this season, led by as many as 18 points before letting Nacogdoches (16-10, 6-1) back into the game, due in part to poor free throw shooting. Nac closed to within six at the 4:11 mark in the third quarter, but the Wildcats responded to + the Dragons' surge. Whitehouse junior point guard Mitch Marquis rallied the Wildcats, scoring five unan- swered points while dealing off two assists. Whitehouse was led in scoring by 6'5 guard Kyle Ford's 13, along with Marquis who also tallied 13. Posts Kody Molloy (6'7) and Jacob Holmen (6'8) tallied 11 apiece, while 6'6 forward Cade Clark added 11. Bart Henderson, Blake Anglin, and Tanner Fedell tallied 4, 2, and 2 respectively. Cats vs. Kilgore Whitehouse used a 14-point first quarter lead to outdistance the Bulldogs Tuesday night. Clark poured in 16 points en route to the 68-31 road win. Ford added 11 points and Molloy 10. WHITEHOUSE - Brady Attaway, 3; Tanner Feddell, 7; Mitch Marquis, 9; Kyle Ford, 11; Blake Anglin, 4; Jacob Holmen, 6; Seth Cashion, 2; Cade Clark, 16; Kody Molloy, 10. Whitehouse (21-2, 8-0) is now ranked higher than any Whitehouse team in history at the class AAAA level, and you have to go back to the early 1980s to find a Wildcat team ranked as high as third in class AAA. The Wildcats play Jacksonville in the Arena Friday night with ninth grade action at 5 p.m., JV at 6:20 and varsity at 7:30. |
