County crews replacing bridge on CR 2179

Those wanting to travel from State Highway 110 west on CR 2179 (Brown Lane) will need to plan on taking a little extra time to take a detour.

The reroute is necessary while county crews replace a failing wooden bridge on CR 2179. Concrete will take the place of the old timbers that have served drivers for decades.

To access property east of the bridge take Hwy. 110 to CR 2138 (Old Tyler Hwy.) then take CR 2180 (Yarbrough Lane) to CR 2178 on to the west end of CR 2179. To reach CR 2303 (Sorrell Drive), which is off of Brown Lane, just north of the new bridge location, drivers should use the same detour.

Smith County Commissioner Bill McGinnis said the project should be completed within three months.
