Tiger varsity teams fall to Tatum Eagles

Full court press leads to turnovers
Tatum's Lady Eagles scored plenty of points, but it was their full-cour t press that really clenched a win over Troup last Friday.
Pressing the entire game, Tatum came away with a 47-27 win to drop the Lady Tigers to 6-5 in district.
Despite their frustration with the Lady Eagle's pressure, Troup responded with its own half-court squeeze, forcing several three-second violations on their opponents.
After a dismal first quarter (15-2 in Tatum's favor), with Janna Ross hitting the lone basket for the Lady Tigers, Troup outscored Tatum in the second to trail 24-14 at halftime.
The Lady Tigers trailed 21-9 late in the second when Pockett Franklin hit a three-pointer that kept their hopes alive.
The teams traded quick baskets in third before Tatum went on an 11-point run to end the period, 39-18.
Janna Ross was held to just 5 points on the night, and a free throw in the second half
Niecy Stewart led Troup with 9 points, followed by Franklin with 5, and Stasinie Hunter and Jessica Ross with 4 each.
The Lady Tiges host Timpson Friday for senior night. Varsity begins approximately 6 p.m.
Eagles overpower Troup boys, 84-41
Missing leading scorer Reginald Wade, Troup dropped a district game to Tatum last Friday, 84-41.
Sophomore Der'Rick Thompson stepped up to score 19 points, but the Eagles had four players in double figures.
Tatum jumped out to a 25-12 first quarter lead. The Tigers settled down a little in the second quarter, and a tighter defense held the Eagles to 13.
The Eagles had their biggest output in the third, knocking down 27 points, to forestall any Tiger comeback attempts.
Other scorers for Troup were Cody Lepelley and Jeremy Richardson with 7 each, Nick Reeves 4 and Tee Franklin and Zach Childress with 2 each.
The Tigers (2-7) travel to Elysian Fields Friday. The varsity is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
