Fall sports banquet honors WH teams

Whitehouse ISD celebrated the success of three sports programs and the work of its student trainers at the annual Fall Sports Banquet held Thursday, Jan. 24 at WHS.
Coaches involved with the Wildcat football, volleyball and cross country programs introduced their groups and recognized both team and individual honors. Eight student athletic trainers were also recognized for their invaluable contribution to the WISD athletic department.
VOLLEYBALL
Under the guidance of longtime head coach Cheryl Till, the varsity Ladycats finished the year with an impressive 24-8 season record. In district, the Ladycats went 14-1, including a playoff win over Hallsville to clinch the district championship.
Seniors members of the Ladycats are Jordan Knight, second team All East Texas, district co-MVP; Joanna Blake, honorable mention All East Texas, first team All District; Katy Kidwell, first team All District; and Erica Fuller, Alyssa Rome, Ramey Tucker, Bailey Watson and Taylor Wright.
Junior members of the squad are Christine Ford, second team All District, and Tori Wirts.
Sophomore Ladycats are Sadie Hilburn, honorable mention All East Texas, second team All District, and Stephanie Alexander, honorable mention All District.
The JV also had a big year, going 25-2 overall and 12-2 in district. Jon Sheppard coaches the junior varsity Ladycats. The ninth-graders, coached by Stacey Hendrix, were 13-13 overall and 7-7 in district.
CROSS COUNTRY
The girls cross countr y team qualified for regional competition after capturing second place at the district meet. Members of the girls squad are seniors Brittany Wilkens, Kamie Cook and Alex Barnes, juniors Whitney Rankin and Marcelo Rodezno, and freshmen Judith Clark and Danielle Nelson.
The boys team finished fourth at the district meet, narrowly missing a chance to advance. Sophomore Tim Priest earned an individual trip to the regional meet, finishing 10th at district with a new personal best time.
Other members of the boys cross country team are seniors Scott Jordan, Kevin Kapka and Travis Tincher, sophomore Ricardo Medina and freshman Adam Lindenmuth.

ATHLETIC TRAINERS
Student athletic trainers (SATs) are under the direction of full-time trainers Jay Ramsey and Jane Tschetter and graduate assistant Salters. The SAT program give students a chance to be involved in athletics while giving them some medical background.
The SATs are eligible to letter in sports medicine after working with varsity sports a certain amount of time.
"SATs put in many hours and are usually more behind the scenes than anything, but are an indispensable part of the athletics here at Whitehouse," said Tschetter.
The eight student trainers who were recognized at the banquet are senior Brittany Ragsdale, junior Heidi Decker, sophomores Angelica Alford, Brittany Bryant, Kali Haskell, Colleen Hughes and Whitney Lade, and freshman Travis Baggett.

FOOTBALL
The varsity won district and b-district with a 10-2 record. The JV finished 9-1 and were district champions. The freshman team ended the year at 8-2.

Franklin, Hunter Howard, Bryant Joseph, Tim Liberty, Markyele Littles, Dakota Martinez, Heath Mayo, Braden McDaniel, Casey Parker, Brian Printers, Jarone Reddick, Johnathan Root, Casey Stewart, Matt Struble, Kyle Stubbs, Phillip Traylor and Asher Williams.
Sophomore members are William Aldridge (manager), Skip Caldwell, Jermaine Kennedy and Chad Lewis.
Freshman members are Quincy Aldridge and Trey Metoyer.
