Athens downs Wildcats, 2-1

The Wildcats lost a tight district contest Tuesday, falling to Athens, 2-1, on the road.

The Cats were able to get on the board first when Mitchell Muller found Julio Alleman open in front of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

The Cats had several good chances in the second half, but with 21:37 left in the game an Athens player was fouled in the box and they made their penalty kick to tie the game.

The game was halted for 30 minutes due to lightning.

With five minutes remaining in the game, Athens put a ball into the 6-yard box and the defense was unable to clear the ball out, giving Athens the game winner.

The Cats record moves to 3- 3-1 in district.

Athens also won the JV game 1-0.
