Cats steamroll Pine Tree, Hallsville

With two blowout victories on the road last week, the #3 ranked Whitehouse Wildcats improved their overall record to 24-1 by defeating Pine Tree 70-44 and Hallsville 83-56.

The Wildcats are now 11-0 in District 12-AAAA and host Marshall Friday night in Wildcat Arena, then close the regular season on the road against Nacogdoches in a game that could have playoff implications.

The Cats traveled to Longview last Tuesday night against an usually tough foe in the Pine Tree Pirates, but this time it was no contest as Whitehouse jumped out to a 32-17 lead at the half and never looked back. The Cats were paced by Kyle Ford and Jacob Holmen who tossed in 19 and 18 respectively with Cade Clark adding 12, Mitch Marquis 11 and Kody Molloy 10.

Friday night saw WHS pummel Hallsville leading by 40, 67-27, after three periods before cleaning up the Bobcats by a score of 83-56. Molloy was the leading scorer for Whitehouse tallying a career high 24 points.

The two wins coupled with Nacogdoches also winning a pair, places the two teams atop District 12-AAAA with 11-0 and 10-1 records.

"I don't think Nac will lose again before next Tuesday night's showdopwn" head coach Wally Dawkins commented.

"And I hope we don't which would mean if we win the game we would be district champs, but if Nac wins we would tie at 13- 1 and then have to determine a playoff method to decide who is first and who is second. I have the utmost confidence we won't need to do that as we expect to win."

Whitehouse defeated the Dragons in Wildcat Arena on Jan. 18th by a score of 65-51.

"If we win the Nacogdoches game we would receive a first round bye in the state playoffs," said Dawkins. Whoever finishes second would have to play a bi-district championship game on Feb. 19."

The Wildcats have now won 32 straight district contests and 29 straight home games.

Friday night tip-off has ninth grade action at 5, JV at 6:15, and varsity scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
