FFA members compete in San Antonio
Collins, Dakota Nelson and Danielle Nelson, all from the Whitehouse FFA, recently participated in the broiler competition at the San Antonio Livestock Show.

Whitehouse FFA members Dakota Nelson, Ramey Tucker and Danielle Nelson participated in the San Antonio Livestock show broiler competition.
Each of the four Whitehouse representatives raised 75 broiler chickens for six weeks, before choosing the top three birds to compete with.

The students expended tremendous amounts of time and effort in the rearing of their projects, according to FFA advisor Casi Bynum.

The participants receive 75 one-day-old broilers, and for the next six weeks, constantly monitor the feed and water intake, temperature, health, weight gain, and light availability of the poultry.

The San Antonio Livestock Show and competition attracts students from all over the state of Texas and in excess of 500 birds. At the show, held Jan. 31, every student from Whitehouse was successful enough to qualify until the second tier of the competition.

The students were exemplary representatives of the Whitehouse FFA program and WISD as a whole, said Bynum.

Tucker, Collins and Dakota Nelson, along with others from Whitehouse, will be participating in the local broiler show at the Smith Country livestock show later in the spring.
