Academic team claims 3rd title
WINNING WILDCATS

For the third week in a row, the Whitehouse High School UIL Academic Team has won the Sweepstakes Award, this time at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler. Students shown above are some of the team members placing at the meet. The Whitehouse UIL Academic Team has won their third straight tournament Feb. 1-2. The Whitehouse Team won the Robert E. Lee Tournament Feb. 1-2, competing in a field of more than 40 schools in 21 events.

The following were winners:

Journalism: first place team.

-- Feature Writing: Caitlin Giddens, second place.

-- Headline Writing: Brittni Barnett, first place; Giddens, second; Meredith Mohr, sixth.

-- Editorial Writing: Alyssa Bennington, second place; Giddens, third; Mohr, sixth.

-- News Writing: Barnett, first place; Giddens, second; Sarah Stewart, third.

Literary Criticism: Gabby Gesulgon, fourth place; second place team, Gesulgon, Kate Mohr, Brittany Wink.

Calculator: Heath Mayo, second place; Trent Chudej, fourth.

Math: Mayo, second.

Number Sense: Chudej, second.

Science: Corbin Seliga, sixth place, senior division; Mayo, first, junior division; Matt Struble, fourth, junior division; Wes Holt, fifth, junior division; Garret Dostal, sixth, junior division; Shiv Rawal, first, sophomore division; Tanner Odom, sixth, sophomore.

Computer Science: first place team; Ethan Bowen, first place; Travis Bessonet, third; Peter Galbraith, fourth.

Current Issues and Events: Barnett, fourth place; Taylor Sulser, sixth.

Informative Speaking: Aaron Adamson, sixth place. Spelling: Trent Chudej, third place; Cody Faisst, fourth; Kathleen Carpio, fifth; second place team.

Ready Writing: Stewart, first place; Rawal, second.
