TEG attends Metroplex competition

The optional members of Texas East Gymnastics team competed last weekend in the Metroplex Challenge. This invitational gymnastics competition is held annually at the Dallas Convention Center. The competition is attended by athletes from all over Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, California, New Jersey, Colorado, New Mexico and Minnesota.

"It is a neat feeling to be able to compete in such a large space, and the top levels, Level 10 and Elites, even get to compete in the arena on a raised podium which is much like what you see on television," said TEG coach Martin Parsley. "The competition atmosphere makes the gymnasts feel special."

Texas East Gymnastics' Level 7 team took fifth place overall with Drew Watson shinning bright by winning first place on the vault with an outstanding score of 9.775. All members of the team contributed toward the team total, and each had her own shining moment.

Individual results include: Angela Rogers, second place, 9.70 on vars; Sideny Dukes, fourth place, 9.474 on floor; Sarah Dorsey, sixth place, 9.175 on beam; Savanna Mardiaga, seventh place, 9.10 on bars; Drew Watson, first place, 9.775 on vault; Sarah Shaffer, second place, 9.675 on vault; Kortlyn Hill, 10th place, 9.275 on vault.
