AARP tax aid available AARP Tax-Aide is the nation's largest free, volunteerrun tax assistance and preparation service available to taxpayers with low and middle income, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Services began Feb. 1 and will continue through April 15. The Smith County local coordinator can be reached at 903- 581- 1809 or kjnovy@nctv.com. The free tax service is available in Whitehouse this year at the YMCA. Over 32,000 AARP tax-Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, now help over two mil- lion taxpayers file their federal, state and local tax returns each year at more than 7,000 AARP Tax-Aide sites nationwide. Volunteers are trained to assist in filing tax forms and basic schedules, including the 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ. Taxpayers with complex tax returns are advised to seek paid tax assistance. Free year-round tax assistance on the Internet allows taxpayers to pose tax questions to online counselors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from the comfort of their home by visiting their website at www.aarp.org/taxaide. |
