Early voting under way Early voting for the March 4 election began this week and continues through Feb. 29. Smith County locations include the Whitehouse United Methodist Church, 405 W. Main. Other locations are the Noonday Community Center, 1662 CR 196; and Smith County Annex, 200 E. Ferguston St., Suite 500, and Heritage Building, 1900 W. Bellwood Rd., Tyler. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; 1-6 p.m. Sunday; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday Friday, Feb. 25-29. Cherokee County early voting locations are Cherokee County Courthouse, Basement Break Room, 135 S. Main, Rusk; Jacksonville Senior Citizen Building, 302 S. Bolton; A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church, 103 Cooper St., Alto. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Filings are also under way for Whitehouse and Troup city and school elections. Qualified candidates have until March 10 to file for the following positions: Whitehouse ISD: Place 1 (incumbent Frank Cuca); Place 2 (incumbent Howard Patterson); Place 3 (incumbent Darrell Cr ymes). At press time, Patterson and Crymes had refiled. Troup ISD: Place 1 (incumbent Keith Lindsey); Place 2 (incumbent Melissa Young); Place 3 (incumbent Kent Lindsey. Andy Griffin has filed for Place 1, Kevin Martin for Place 3. Young has filed for re-election. City of Troup: Mayor (incumbent John Whitsell); Place 2 (incumbent Barbara Barton); Place 3 (unexpired term of Nancy Boothe); Place 5 (incumbent Carole Wilson). Whitsell and Wilson have filed. City of Whitehouse: Mayor (incumbent Jake Jacobson); Place 1 (unexpired term of Bill Powers); Place 2 (incumbent Gene Champion); Place 4 (incumbent Mike Adams). Councilmember Danny Hogden has filed for mayor. Adams is not eligible due to term limits. The city and school election will be Saturday, May 10. |
