WHS Academic Team wins 4th straight meet

Congratulations to the Whitehouse High School UIL Academic Team for winning their fourth straight tournament on Feb. 9 at Quitman High School.

The Whitehouse Team won in a field of over 20 schools competing in 21 events.

The Academic Team will next travel to College Station to compete in the Texas A&M Consolidated UIL Invitational Meet on Feb. 22-23.

The following were winners at the Quitman meet:

Journalism: first place team

- Feature Writing: Caitlin Giddens, third place; Brittni Barnett, sixth.

- Headline Writing: Barnett, second place; Giddens, third.

- Editorial Writing: Barnett, first place; Giddens, second; Alyssa Bennington, fourth.

- News Writing: Barnett, second place; Giddens, third.

Literary Criticism: Gabby Gesulgon, second place.

Calculator: Heath Mayo, first place.

Science: Mayo, first place; second place team, Mayo, Shiv Rawal, Tanner Odom, Danielle Macedo; top physics score, Mayo.

Current Issues and Events: Taylor Sulser, first place; Barnett, second; second place team, Sulser, Barnett, Giddens, Lehia Hill.

Spelling: April Fleming, fourth place.

Ready Writing: Natalie Townsend, second place; Rawal, third; Gesulgon, fifth.

Social Studies: Mayo, third place; second place team, Mayo, Sulser, Rachael Rischard.
