Cats fulfill 14-0 goal; set sights on playoffs

The Whitehouse Wildcats set a goal to win all 14 District 12-AAAA games in boys basketball. And for the second year in a row, the Cats have gone a perfect 14-0 in district play. WHS won a hard fought contest last Tuesday night in Nacogdoches, downing a determined Dragon team 55-45.

Nac entered the game with a 12-1 ledger, hoping to upset the states #3 ranked team and lay claim to a "Co-District Champ" title.

But a Wildcat team who has not lost since Nov. 30th, held off the Dragons behind Mitch Marquis' 21 points and Jacob Holmen's 17.

"Our team fought hard to win," head coach Wally Dawkins proclaimed following the win. "Nacogdoches is a good team. They play hard, aggressive, in your face defense, and we needed that.

"What can you say about the way Mitch and Jacob played. Mitch just took the game over with his offensive play and Jacob was money in the bank from the line (F.T.). All of our kids worked so hard. It is tough to win all 14, but they did it...again.

"I thought Kyle Ford and Kody Molloy really went hard to the boards. The whole team wanted to be undisputed District 12-4A champs, and go undefeated in district."

Whitehouse has now won 35 straight district games, dating back to Jan. of 2006 when a Damion James(now of Texas Longhorn fame) defeated WHS 43-30 at Nacogdoches.

The Wildcats have also won 31 home games in a row, while not having a losing season since 1987-88.

Whitehouse will now compete in the state playoffs for the fifth year in a row, and 9 of the last 10, and 17 of the past 21 seasons.

Whitehouse Wildcat basket- ball is considered to be one of the strongest programs in the state. An achievement Dawkins is proud of.

"When I took over for C.L. Nix in 1988, I did not want to be the guy that lost at Whitehouse," said Dawkins. "I have been very fortunate to have worked with some of the finest young men anywhere. I just feel really blessed to have been around such great kids and to have had such great success."
