Blaze destroys WH home
Cause of fire under investigation

Photos/Suzanne Loudamy Firefighters from Whitehouse, Troup and Chapel Hill battled a housefire Monday on Slack Road. The home was engulfed before the firefighters arrived, and high winds contributed to the home being a total loss.
Firefighters responded to a house fire at 17267 Slack Road on Monday around noon.

Units from Whitehouse, Chapel Hill and Troup were called to battle the blaze at the residence located on Lake Tyler.

According to Darrell Crymes, assistant fire chief for Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Department, by the time the call came in and the first trucks arrived the house was almost fully engulfed. Crymes also said that firefighters were hampered by high winds and the fact that the home had a metal roof.

The homeowner, Steve Glaspie, was not at home at the time.

The Smith County Fire Marshal's office does not yet have a determination on the cause of the fire.
