Virginia Sellers Cartwright

Virginia Sellers Cartwright completed her earthly life after a brief illness on Feb. 18, 2008. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a devout Christian and member of Church of Christ.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1916 in Jackson, Tenn., and lost both her parents in the flu epidemic of 1918. She was adopted and raised by William Calvin Sellers and his wife Myrtle.

Virginia met her future husband of 58 years, William "Bill" Ewing Cartwright, while attending the University of Tennessee. They were married on Aug. 31, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1998.

Virginia S. Cartwright is survived by four children: Anne Sellers Vannoy and husband David of Carrollton, Robert William Cartwright and wife Marie of Tyler, Richard Ewing Cartwright and wife Phyllis of Whitehouse, Connie Sue Kurek and husband Ralph of Barnard, Vt. Also, seven grandchildren: Christy Vannoy, Allison Vannoy, Ben Cartwright, Kevin Cartwright, Matthew Cartwright, Andrew Cartwright and wife Deana, and Raymond Kurek; plus one great-granddaughter, Madalyn Grace Cartwright.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at Lloyd James Funeral chapel with Bill Sherrill officiating.
