WH takes 2nd in tournament

The Whitehouse varsity baseball team competed in the Lufkin Hudson tourney last week at Central High School.

In the first game on Friday, the Wildcats defeated Silsbee 17-3 pounding out 19 hits. Grant Brandon got the win on the hill for the Wildcats.

In the next game, the Wildcats defeated Hemphill 8-6. The Cats jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before allowing Hemphill to crawl back into it and then holding on for the win. Mayo worked the mound for the Wildcats to get the win while Kevan House pitched in relief and Bell earned the save.

Whitehouse then played its final pool game on Saturday defeating Central 15-2.

With the three wins in pool play, Whitehouse went into bracket play as the #2 seed and played the host team, Lufkin Hudson in the semifinals. This proved to be a nail-biter as the Wildcats gave up six early runs before battling back to take a hard fought 10-9 win.

The victory set up a final showdown with Vidor which the Cats lost 8-2. The Wildcats had 9 hits but struggled to push runners across to score.
