Guthrie, Rust set for run-off
With no majority winner, the race between Dustin Rust and Gary Guthrie will continue on April 8 in a runoff election. Guthrie finished the night with 40.10 percent of the vote and Rust with 27.81 percent. "I'm delighted at the confidence the citizens of Smith County have in me," Guthrie said. "I will not fail them. In the end, it's the experience that will be the turning factor." "I really appreciate everyone's support," Rust said. "We will continue to maintain the path through the run-off." In other local races, Sheriff J.B. Smith easily keeps his seat as Smith County sheriff with 64.23 percent of the votes cast. In the 114th Judicial District Judge's race Christi Kennedy defeated Alan Brown by receiving 54.20 percent of the votes. In the four-way race for Pct. 3 Constable, Guthrie had 2,059 votes compared to Rust's 1,428.
