Edna Hathcox

Longtime educator, precious mother and grandmother Edna Hathcox went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 25, 2008.

Edna was born in Collin County to John William and Jessie Rose Cruse on Jan. 19, 1913. She was a public school teacher for 42 years, with most of those years in Hawkins.

Mrs. Hathcox held a master's degree from East Texas State, now known as Texas A&M Commerce. She was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Hawkins, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Hawkins Study Club. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Wood County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her precious husband, Carl Hathcox; sister, Mae Hudgins; and brothers, Clarence and Johnny Cruse.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Carleta Cates and husband David of Whitehouse; her two grandsons, Carl Cates of Vail, Colo., and Kyle Cates of Tyler; one sister, Geniavee Hatcher of Paris; and a host of other relatives.

Edna was a resident of Songbird Assisted Living of Longview for the past five and one-half years. She was also under the care of Texas Home Health Hospice for a short time. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the workers of Songbird and Hospice for their care and devotion to their loved one.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Carl and Kyle Cates and also Dale and Matt Cates.

Services were at Beaty Funeral Home in Hawkins, and burial followed in Hawkins Cemetery. Officiant was Jeff Regian, family friend.
