Whitehouse defeats Longview The Whitehouse varsity baseball team pulled out a tough extra inning win last Tuesday defeating Longview on the road 8-7 in 8 innings. The Wildcats pounded out 12 hits as compared to 8 for the Lobos to back winning pitcher, Grant Brandon. The Lobos jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning chasing Whitehouse starter, Blake Simpson, from the hill. The lead would stand until the top of the fourth when the Wildcats would tie things up at 3 all. Taylor Peterson started the rally with a one out walk then Tyler Spitzmiller singled. Cody Brown later came to the plate with two outs and doubled to right driving in Peterson and Spitzmiller. Brown hustled his way to third and forced an errant throw that went out of play allowing Brown to score tying the game. The Lobos jumped back into the lead scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth off Brandon who had come in for Simpson in the second inning and had held the Lobos at bay until the fifth. The score then stood 5-3 until the top of the seventh. Ryan Bell led off the seventh with a double and moved to third on Matt Durst's groundout to second. Simpson then walked and then Brandon hit a double to right scoring Bell and Simpson. With two outs, Spitzmiller singled to left to score Brandon and give the Cats the lead at 6-5. Longview would not go down easy scoring one in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. In the eighth, the Cats started things off with consecutive singles by Heath Mayo and Bell. After two fly outs moved the runners up a base, Brandon came through again with another double scoring Mayo and Bell to give the Cats the lead back at 8-6. Longview would score one final run in the bottom of the inning but Brandon left the bases loaded getting a fly ball to Brown in center field to end the game and give the Cats a 8-7 win to carry back home. |
