WJHS student aims for archery success

Whitehouse Junior High School student Mackenzie Brown shows the form that has helped her claim three first-place finishes in recent archery competitions. The seventh-grader is currently ranked fourth in the USA National and Junior Olympic Archery Development tournaments.
Mackenzie Brown has shot in three major tournaments within the last month and claimed first place in all contests.

On Feb. 15-17, the Whitehouse Junior High School seventh-grader shot in the 2008 Texas State Archery Association State Indoor Championship at the University of Texas at Austin.

The division that she began shooting in this year is the Female Cub Recurve division. In that tournament she shot a score of 890 out of a possible 1,200 to win first place.

She then went on to the 2008 National Field Archery Association's World Archery Festival at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., on Feb. 22-24. She shot in the Youth Female Recurve division. She shot a 516 out of a possible 600 to win first place.

Brown then shot at Texas A&M University in the 2008 U.S. Archery National Indoor Championship South Division and the 2008 Junior Olympic Archery Development National Indoor Championship South Division on Feb. 28 through March 1.

In both tournaments, she shot in the Female Cub Recurve Division. In the USA Championship she shot a 979 out of a possible 1,200 to win first place. She shot a 539 out of a possible 600 in the JOAD Championship to again claim top honors.

With only two remaining regional competitions left to post their results, Brown is currently ranked fourth in both the USA National and JOAD National tournaments
