Wildcat JV beats Lee in rain-interrupted tourney In a rain/snow shortened tournament last weekend, Whitehouse JV was able to get in their first game on Thursday against Robert E. Lee. With a 12:00 start, the game was able to finish before a "spring northerner" blew in rain and snow Thursday night and into Friday forcing the cancellation of the tournament being held in Pine Tree. It was fortunate for the Wildcats who rode a strong pitching performance from Justin Haney to post a 7-1 win over the Red Raiders. Both Haney and the Lee starter kept hitters at bay until the top of the fourth when the Cats jumped out for a 2-0 lead on the heels of a couple of Lee miscues allowing Jacob Hilburn and Conner Crawford to come across the plate. The Cats would score four more in the fifth highlighted by RBI singles from Hilburn and Payton Smith. The Cats would notch one final run in the top of the seventh as Justin Kellar scored on a fielder's choice at the plate. The Red Raiders pushed their only run across in the bottom of the seventh on a double scoring the runner from first base before Haney would get the final out on a strike out. Haney finished the game with 9 K's while giving up 4 walks and allowing only 3 hits. The JV "White" team will be back in action tomorrow as they host a district pre-season tournament playing two games on Friday and two on Saturday. |
