Tiger teams down Timpson

Troup's baseball and softball squads had a good night Monday as they both came away with decisive district wins over Timpson.

Adam Voigt struck out 12 and allowed just three hits in the Tigers 13-3 win.

Jared Ayres had a two-run homer in the fourth, while Cody Deese and Preston Pittinger contributed two hits each. Pittinger also had three RBIs.

The win improved the Tigers record to 4-1 after last week's 4-0 loss to Elysian Fields and 9-0 shutout of Tatum.

Voigt was also on the mound against the Eagles, striking out 14 and allowing three hits.

The pitching ace, credited with four wins and zero losses thus far, was 2-for- 3 at the plate against Tatum and had three RBIs.

Nick Reeves and Ryan Nichols each had two hits and Deese contributed at two-run homer.

The Tigers play in Garrison tonight with the JV game at 4:30 and varsity at 6:30 p.m.

Solid pitching also played a part in the Lady Tigers' 12-2 win over the Timpson Lady Bears.

Freshman Jessica Ross kept her opponents off balance, while in-the-park homers by Valerie York and Janna Ross powered the offense.

The Lady Bears led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

With runners on base, York hit a sharp ball to right field and hustled around the bases for the in-field homer.

With a 4-2 lead, Jessica Ross quickly retired three Lady Bears at the top of the fifth to put Troup back at the plate.

Desiree Purtle knocked down a triple and then crossed the plate on a single from Lauren Fite to extend the lead to 5-2.

The Lady Bears had little sucess in their next at bat, setting up a seven-run sixth inning for Troup, culminating with Janna Ross' game-wining hit.

The Lady Tigers are 3-4 in district following a 3-2 loss to Arp, 6-1 loss to Elysian Fields and a 23-0 win over West Rusk.
