Early voting for run-off starts March 31

Early voting for run-off elections from the Democratic and Republican primaries begins on Monday and runs through Friday, April 4.

The Democratic Primary left the race for Railroad Commissioner undecided and the Republican Primary failed to elect a candidate for the offices of Smith County Commission for precinct three and a constable for precinct three. While these precinct numbers are the same, they do not cover the same area. Check your voting card to verify your voting precinct.

Those who will decide the winner of the constable race between Gary Guthrie and Dustin Rust are those who voted in the Republican Primary or did not vote at all in the primary and who reside in voting precincts 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 45, 55, 56 and 59. There was no Democratic candidate so the new constable will come from this run-off.

The Smith County Commissioner's race between incumbent Bobby Van Ness and challenger Terry Phillips will be decided by those who voted in the Republican Primary or did not vote at all in the primary and who reside in the commissioner's voting precincts.

Only those who voted in the Democratic Primary or did not vote at all can vote for the Democratic candidate in the Railroad Commissioner's run-off between Mark Thompson and Dale Henry. Michael L. Williams ran unopposed for the GOP slot on the November ballot.

Early voting locations are Lindale Masonic Lodge, 200 Margaret St.; Whitehouse United Methodist Church, 405 W. Main; and Smith County Annex, 200 E. Ferguson, Suite 500 in Tyler. Hours for early voting are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 31 through April 2 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 3 and 4.
