June Marie Wester Brim

June Marie Wester Brim, 83, passed from this life on March 18, 2008 at home with her family, of natural causes. This loving wife, mother, and "Granny June" was born May 30, 1924 to the pioneering Hopkins County family of Frank and Carrier Wester, who preceded her in death. One of six Wester siblings, she grew up and lived most of her life in Sulphur Springs area. She graduated from East Texas Teacher's College where she was honored as a May Beauty. Her love of teaching was something she practiced for many years, earning her Masters in Education from East Texas State University along the way before retiring in 1990. She married the late Judge J. Kearney Brim, Jr., on June 9, 1944, in Sulphur Springs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs for more than 40 years, and was a faithful member of the Crusaders Class. Her retirement years were filled with family, lively games of bridge with her many friends, and numerous church activities. One thing for which will always be remembered is constructing unique cards and letters to encourage, congratulate, or comfort everyone she knew. Her gift was letting people know she cared and spent countless hours crafting her handiworks of love. In 2005, as her health became more of a concern, she moved to Dallas to live with her youngest son, Cal, and have the nursing care of his wife, Daunn.

She is survived by her children, Jay Brim and wife, Jeanine, of Austin; Charlie Brim and wife Terri, of Dallas; Connie Brim Gulley and husband, Jeff, of Tyler; Cal Brim and wife, Daunn, of Dallas; her brother, James Wester, of Palmer, Texas. Her surviving grandchildren include Cari Brim Land of Tacoma, Wash., Brandon Brim of Tucson, Ariz., Stacy Brim Drake of Beaumont, Jessica Brim Schumacher of Austin, Amy Gulley Cagle of Tyler, and Reid Gulley of Stephenville. She leaves one great-grandson, Jack Land, of Tacoma, Wash., and two great-grandchildren awaiting birth. She was preceded in death by husband Judge J. Kearney Brim; one grandson, Brent Burkett; her brothers, Bostick Wester and Cal Wester; and her sisters, Carolyn Wester Porter and Mildred Jane Wester (infant).

Services were held March 22 at First United Methodist Church, Sulphur Springs, with her sons officiating. Graveside services followed at City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the City Cemetery Society, P.O. Box 651, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home, www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
