Hallsville slips by Wildcats, 7-6 The Whitehouse varsity baseball team came back last Thursday from probably their poorest showings to play one of their best games of the year only to come up one run short to Hallsville 7-6. "We played a solid game tonight and I was really pleased with our energy on and off the field" said Coach Danny Robey afterwards. Hallsville came in to the game with a 2-1 record having lost a close game to district leading Nacogdoches while Whitehouse had dropped its first three district games and had seen little go there way early in district play. Hallsville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a Whitehouse miscue in the outfield and then tacked on two more in the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 6- 0 lead. Then Whitehouse got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Seth Cashion led off with a single and two batters later Grant Brandon launched a two-run homer to left to put the Cats back into it at 6-2. The Cats saw the Bobcats tack on a run in the fifth but got it back in the sixth as Cashion led off with a single up the middle and then Blake Shockley, in as a courtesy runner for Cashion, scored on a single by Kevan House, to make the score 7-3. Whitehouse had a hill to climb headed into the seventh and got things going early as Cody Brown led off with a walk and then moved to second on Heath Mayo's groundout. Ryan Bell then singled moving Brown to third. After Bell stole second to stay out of the double play possibility, Cashion hit a line shot to right allowing Brown to score on the sacrifice fly. Then Matt Durst came up to pinch hit and found an 0-2 pitch to his liking and hit a two-run shot to deep center to move the Cats to 7-6 before the Bobcats would get the final out to end the game. The Cats will be on the road tomorrow night as they travel to Marshall to take on the Mavericks. |
