Book It! Buffet set for April 19

What does it take to write a book?

Mildred Steele has an immediate answer to that question: "A lot more time and effort than you ever expect."

Her view is shared by Deborah Burkett, Mary Ann Coney, Bobby Neel and Navoleine Roddy who, along with Steele, make up the group undertaking the writing of a history of Troup. All agree that the amount of time it takes to search the official records, interview those who lived through the times, investigate family archives, and then put all of this information into a coherent narrative is very labor intensive.

Now as the book nears completion, the group wants to share with the community its scope and the rich history it contains.

The Book It! Buffet, set for Saturday, April 19 in the Community Room of the Troup Municipal Library will be an evening full of wonderful food, interesting displays, and entertaining bits of history, and surprises. The event is a come-and-go affair from 5:30-8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for children under 12. All proceeds go to support the history of Troup.

Carole Wilson, chair of the food committee, is planning tables of tasty varieties of pick-up food.

Burkett and Neel are selecting and arranging some of the best of the book's historical photographs for display. Navoleine Roddy and Mildred Steele are putting together the evening's entertainment of historical games, stories of the past and of the creation of the book, and surprises.

The book is sponsored by the Troup Genealogy/ Historical Society and the Friends of the Troup Library. The plans call for the book to be available in time for early Christmas shopping.
