Tigers split games with Arp, Waskom

Troup slipped to third place in district with a seventh-inning loss to Arp last week. The Tigers are 5-3 and trail Elysian Fields and Garrison in the district standings.

Arp grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first inning, with Troup tying the game 2-all in the third. Neither team could score another runner until Arp earned the game-winning run in the seventh for the 3-2 win.

This was the second bottom of-the-seventh loss for the Tigers, who are the defending district champs.

"Our pitching and defense has been fairly consistent, but we have got to be more consistent at the plate to make the playoffs," said head coach Cal Sparks.

Adam Voigt struck out 10 and gave up six hits in the loss.

Austin Braswell went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Cody Deese (2-for-3) and Preston Pittinger (1-for-3) each knocked in a run for Troup.

The Tigers rebounded from the Arp loss with a 5-1 home win over Waskom on Friday.

Braswell worked the mound, striking out eight and giving up just four hits.

Troup grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning and then added runs in the third and fifth innings.

Voigt was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI, while Nick Reeves finished 2-for-3 with a double.

The Tigers play in Tatum Friday and then host Elysian Fields April 8 with both games starting at 6 p.m.
